Differences of Hotel Linen Counts

May 08, 2026

Yarn count is a professional indicator to measure the thickness of yarn, referring to the length of yarn spun from cotton per unit weight. The higher the yarn count number, the finer the yarn. It requires higher quality of raw cotton and textile technology, and the texture and comfort of the woven fabric will be improved accordingly. The linen for beds and towels commonly used in hotel rooms is mainly divided into three grades: 40-count, 60-count and 80-count. Different counts correspond to different check-in experiences and hotel positioning.

40-Count Linen
Fabric Characteristics: The yarn is relatively thick, the fabric is thick and stiff, with strong cotton feel, excellent wear resistance and wash resistance. It is not easy to pilling, deform or damage after repeated cleaning and high-frequency turnover.
Hand Feel & Texture: The touch is solid and simple, slightly rough, without excess luster. It is a basic and practical fabric that can meet basic sleep and use needs.
Applicable Scenarios: Budget hotels, chain hotels, homestays and other accommodation places with large passenger flow and high linen turnover frequency.

60-Count Linen
Fabric Characteristics: The yarn has moderate fineness, higher fabric density, uniform thickness, balancing softness and durability. It is not easy to shrink or wrinkle after washing, and its stability is better than 40-count linen.
Hand Feel & Texture: The touch is delicate and smooth, with soft cotton feel and natural delicate luster. The skin-friendliness is greatly improved, without rough discomfort when lying or touching.
Applicable Scenarios: Mid-range business hotels, 3-star to 4-star hotels. It is the mainstream choice of hotel linen and meets the residential needs of most guests.

80-Count Linen
Fabric Characteristics: The yarn is extremely slender, woven from high-grade combed cotton. The fabric has extremely high density, light and delicate texture, excellent smoothness and luster, and is an exclusive fabric for high-end hotels.
Hand Feel & Texture: The touch is silky, soft and glutinous, skin-friendly without feeling, as warm and delicate as silk. It has full air permeability and fit, which can significantly improve sleep comfort and bring a luxurious residential experience.
